Maebh Murphy
Maebh Murphy is a musician and organiser.In the 2000s following her studies in literature and drama in Ireland, she made site specific urban audio tours in the UK and Ireland and at festivals in Europe and the U.S. She has been instrument and band coaching and programming events for girls and queer rock camps and related projects since 2011.
As a musician Maebh has released records with electro duo You’re Only Massive such as the albums Stop Talking and Dot Dash, the single Under the Neon and the cassette mixtape releases The Fourth Quarter Volumes I to IV. Between 2008 and the birth of her first child in 2015 she toured these records in Europe and North America, playing over 500 concerts in largely DIY spaces.
Since returning from parental leave in 2017, she shifted her focus to initialising, planning and co-ordinating projects that served specific community and artistic needs, such as Kidz Klang at Wagenburg Lohmühle, Do It Together Music Workshops in Neukölln, TURNT UP, a free rock camp for Berlin youth, and the MEME project, a large scale collaborative international music and media making camp and conference which took place in Berlin, Iceland, Serbia and Norway in 2018 and 2019.
She also works as a consultant in project development.Together with a group of artists and activists she founded ATEM e.V. in 2018, which makes projects by and for people who experience discrimination in – amongst other fields – music.
