Juliana Huxtable
Born in Texas, Juliana Huxtable attended Bard College where she studied art, gender studies, and human rights. After moving to NYC, Huxtable co-founded the trans-inclusive party series SHOCK VALUE, which has hosted the most sought after DJs. In her work Huxtable moves gracefully between galleries, community spaces, and nightclubs. In this movement she successfully creates new artistic playgrounds for herself and her collaborators. In her poetry, performances and essays, Huxtable often reframes herself, negotiating and critiquing conventional concepts of identity and undermining dominant historical narratives.
Huxtable’s use of diverse media, including self-portraiture, text-based prints, performance, nightlife, music, writing, and social media, has garnered her the position as one of the most versatile and dynamic contemporary artists.
