Panel, Race, Gender, and Identity Politics as Currency: Whose is it to Spend?

Esther aka “Afure” is a black queer dancer from NYC based in Berlin, they are also part of drag collective “House of Living Colors”.This dancing queen channels their inner hype beast on stage, as an urban dance performer their raw energy and mixture of drag, street dance, and dope style is guaranteed to hype everyone unto the dance floor!.They have also starred in various music videos and have experience in contemporary theater.

Their dance performances features themes on, hip hop culture, queerness and femme power.”I feel often As a black femme in this society our bodies are often oversexualised and up for consumption without our consent, I “twerk to resist” to reclaim my sexuality, heal and to go against the “norm” beauty standards. As for my queerness its also a part of me that gives me strength, My sensuality mostly lies in my queerness, for me queer is to love and exist in a way that isn’t stagnant but free. As for femme power to me means nurture, love, resilience and being a badass while also looking fierce. I love to take these parts of my identity and express this in my dance in hopes to inspire other carefree black femmes and everyone else to celebrate themselves shamelessly.
